Man, these are always tough. Not the apologizing part. I’m fine with owning my mistakes. But knowing I dropped the ball enough to disappoint my readers is what hurts most.
As an independent author I’ve always prided myself on the quality I produce. I like to say you can put my books side by side with any novel from a big name publisher and they’ll hold their own.
This release, not so much.
I’m juggling a lot these days. A hiatus from novel writing. A brief, Icarus-like flight toward the gleaming lights of Hollywood. A full-time job over the summer. A “new” century-plus old house with a bit of TLC needed.
In the middle of all that, I decided I’d release a new series in an entirely new genre and do it at a blistering pace. When I did, I altered my process to meet my deadlines and a whole bunch of little errors slipped through the cracks.
The “patch” landed on shelves pretty quickly – within a few weeks of release. Not too many of the unruly versions made it out into the wild. In fact, I have a good idea of the exact number just not where they landed.
Good news is most of my sales are eBooks. If you bought an eBook version, all that’s needed is to re-download your copy.
If you ordered a print copy? That’s tougher. So, here’s my offer:
If you ordered your paperback copy of Devil’s Churn before 9-1-2023 (because I have no idea how long it takes Amazon to update the masters in their print shop), send me a copy of your receipt and a shipping address and I’ll gladly mail you the updated version.
You can email them to russ@russlinton.com.
That simple.
Aside from that hiccup, the release has been promising. It’s much easier to find a market for thrillers than superhero fiction. Despite the fumble, I’ve landed a few solid ratings and reviews too.
And if you’ve read either Devil’s Churn or Death Bed, don’t forget to leave a review! Not only do they let me know if I’ve really slipped up, they’re the fuel for other readers to discover this exciting new series.
The Mineral King launch is only a few weeks away. As it approaches, we’re packing up the RV and getting ready to return to our nomadic ways.
There’ll be more news from the road as we dodge incoming hurricanes and flooded highways (well, the plan is to go around all those things but the seeds for an unplanned adventure are there…)
Getting Discovery together for the trip had some interesting moments too. I’ll share more next time. For now, everybody stay safe!
Thanks for reading,
Russ
