Book four in the Fort Black Thriller series has landed! The eBook and paperback versions are both available on Amazon. And, in some kind of holiday miracle, DEVIL’S CHURN is sitting at an overall ranking of 11,411 in the Amazon store.
I know, that’s a really big number. Considering the Amazon store has over 12 MILLION books, it’s a massive accomplishment.
I’d like to thank all my new readers for helping make this series a hit. Truth be told, we’re still in the early stages. I’m even considering expanding the series beyond my original plan of six books.
That isn’t to say Kade will overstay his welcome. His pursuit of the mysterious forces behind the coast-to-coast manhunt will come to an end. Book five dives deep into the conspiracy as Kade infiltrates a key component of their inner circle. Book six was supposed to be the final confrontation. But while I’ve always got a plan going in, Agent Black has a way of blazing his own trail.
Also, as the world around Kade expands, I’m starting to see other possibilities. Beyond Kade’s struggles, we could see a few spin-offs. Felicity Harper comes to mind – the security division isn’t always about flying a desk. Or even Derek Alderman’s past as a decorated Army Ranger. Or a series of books set around the old team’s exploits.
For now, the goal is to get book five out ASAP.
I’m shooting for March. Probably late March, but I believe it’s doable. You might not be happy with me if I take too much longer. DEATH TOLL ends with a real nail-biter.
We’re currently wintering outside Savannah, visiting family and enjoying the history of this centuries-old city (I hyphenated! My ARC readers will be so proud!) Wandering the brick and cobblestone streets and admiring the historic architecture, I’ve started to realize I’m feeling a little homesick this time out.
As I mentioned previously, my wife and I bought a house the year before last. An investment, really, before the interest rates went stratospheric. A place we could call home when the wanderlust faded.
She’s a beautiful old home. Well cared for in the 183 years she’s been standing, there are still a few issues to address. The history though is all there from the bark-covered beams in the basement to the wavy glass in the windows. She’s a reminder of stability in what have been turbulent times and I’m looking forward to getting her back in shape.
Starting out in 2018, we weren’t sure when or if we’d ever settle down again. The nomad life worked for us. It still does. But as the years and miles wear on, we’re beginning to see a time when that travel could slow down.
Crawling around under Discovery, unbolting the heavy leveling jack from the frame during the last repair, I was reminded how patching up a motorhome isn’t an ideal retirement situation.
We’ve got a ways to go until then, but those ten to fifteen years will be gone in an instant, I know. We’ll need some of that time to get the new place in order. Between the two homes, there’ll be little rest. Living every day to the fullest while also preparing for the future isn’t easy and that’s just fine with me.
And the writing? I don’t have an end game there. Pry my cold, dead fingers off the keyboard when the time comes.
We’ve got another trip out West planned for 2024 – 2025. After that, it’s hard to say. We might find the travel bug revived. Or we could just as easily be ready to focus on the homestead.
No resolutions to begin the New Year here. All I know is that more books will be written and more adventures will be had. Thanks for joining me so far.
