View from the Windshield – And a Fort Black Thriller update

Been a while since I posted one of these. We’ve been in some nice parks lately, but the immediate view hasn’t been the best. Out last spot, we were looking squarely at the bathrooms. Before that? A view of other people’s rigs.

That might be the case at the Delaware Seashore – if anybody were here.

Instead, I had a clear shot of the bridge all lit up and a full moon slipping between the towers. One of those shots where I miss the DSLR I used to carry around. All the gear was good for highly technical shots like low-light and such. But phone cameras never cease to impress with what they can capture.

We’ve arrived the week prior to opening weekend for the park. My guess is the hundreds of sites will fill up quick. But the official season doesn’t start until April. At least, that’s when they turn the water on.

We’re pushing north a bit faster than we technically should. Most parks up this way aren’t going to open until April or May. We’ve got through the last week of March planned out and then … we’ll just have to see.

We might make the push to our other home. I’ll have to check temperatures. I’d hate to have to winterize Discovery just for a couple weeks left of freezing temps.

We’re looking forward to spending the summer at home. Last year, I worked. A temporary government job. Good work if you can find those far-flung outposts on the fringes of bureaucracy.

This year, I’ll be working on the property. That’s the focus. The to-do list is long and varied and we’re remote enough that finding help is often a challenge. We want to get things squared away before we embark again this fall on what my wife has taken to calling “The Grand Tour.”

All the back and forth from coast to coast and we have a few holes to plug on our state map. We missed Wyoming due to wildfires. And haven’t spent near enough time in southern Utah as we intended. then we need to hit the Great Lakes region after a trip through the Dakotas.

That’s the idea, anyway. Starting with a trip down south to see family as well.

For a few months though, the view out the windshield will be pretty static. I’ll post one when we get back to the property. It isn’t a bad view by any means.

Currently, I’m at 75,000 words for book five, Roundhouse. I usually wrap up at about 85k. That’s a week of less worth of work. Then I’ll take that first draft and go through it beginning to end.

A cover is in the works too. End of March shouldn’t be a problem BUT there are some behind the scenes rumblings that may just alter the course for Kade. I’ll share more as soon as I can.

Thanks again for riding along,

Russ
