Only the Beginning…

Today I uploaded the final draft for book six in the Fort Black Thrillers, RUSSIAN HILL. All is set for the release on 8-31!

About sixteen months ago, I set the goal of publishing a complete series in a year. I missed the publishing dates by about a month (not counting the initial drafting time for book one), but six books later, that goal has been accomplished.

Pun intended, it’s been a wild ride. From a car theft and recovery in the dusty streets of Lubbock, Texas to a cozy farmhouse in the New England countryside, a lot has changed in the last few years.

I’m no longer a full-time nomad. We still travel over half the year, living out of our own Hindy. As our migration time approaches, I’ve been slammed with getting her ready for the next leg of our adventures.

A failed turbocharger and a rusted-out exhaust along with routine maintenance has taken our rig one step closer to it’s fictional counterpart. I also decided to upgrade the house batteries to lithium. And, naturally, opened a can of worms as I tried to make the fifteen-year-old electrical systems integrate a wildly cutting edge piece of hardware.

With all the fancy gear, she’ll be ready to hit the road again soon. The old rig’s time is hardly up. Many miles in her yet.

And even as I send the last book of Kade’s adventures off to the printer, it won’t be the last you hear of him either.

The news I’ve been dying to tell you is that the Fort Black Thrillers will soon begin audio production!

That’s right, I’ve inked a deal to bring you Kade and company in stereo. It’s still early. I don’t have exact dates yet. But as soon as I do, I’ll pass on the details.

Meanwhile, I’m prepping for a test run of the motorhome this weekend. We’ll be taking her to the mountains to put her through her paces. If all looks good, then we’ll get things set up for an epic adventure out West this winter and into next summer.

I’ve put 30000 miles on our rig since we bought her in 2018. Crossed the country coast to coast and back again a few times. This is the longest I’ve been away from those picturesque and awe-inspiring landscapes. Some of my favorite places are out in the wilds there. But we’re headed out again to see what we’ve missed.

There’ll be a few trips to our regular haunts. Wouldn’t surprise me if we drop in on Lake Mead for a while. I haven’t been back since writing Death Bed. But all this back and forth and we kept missing some big must see attractions.

We plan to spend some time in southern Utah and the cluster of parks near the Arizona border. Bryce, Zion, Arches, Capitol Reef, the Grand Canyon, Glen Canyon – I don’t know if we’ll make it to them all, but we’ll damn sure try!

After that, there’s a long overdue trip to Yosemite. Pandemics and fires and all sorts of calamities have kept us out in the past. We’re determined to make it work this time.

And as I travel, I’ll be plotting and scheming for the next series. I think, for now, I’m putting Kade aside. Giving him some time to take in the sights on a well-deserved break.

But I do have a very exciting opportunity to write for a publishing house that has done great things in the thriller genre. I may go quiet as I hunker down behind my keyboard but I won’t be on any kind of hiatus. I’ll be dreaming up more stories to share.

If you can, follow me here or on the Facebook page. Al things Fort Black and other exciting adventures will be updated here as well as more inspiring views out the windshield as I wander the byways and back roads.

Kade’s epic origin story might have come to an end, but this is only the beginning.

Thanks again for coming along for the ride,

Russ
