Ready to Hit the Trails…

We’ve survived.

If you recall, us Southerners purchased a property up north. Far north. About as far as you can go before we have to change citizenship.

As the timing would have it, we ended up spending the winter here too. Lots of cozy days and nights spent by the wood stove. Even a brief dip down to wind chills of -27.

The locals assured us the winters had been mild the past several years. I imagine this is true compared to their decades of experience. But we were coming off five years of dodging the cold.

I’m now the proud owner of many snow shovels. Often used on the roof of our RV I might add. A blower might be in the cards for next year (not for use on the roof of the RV).

Re-adapting to a sticks and bricks life has been challenging. No regrets though. Acres and acres of woods behind us and one of the most picturesque bays in the world out front. Lots of hard work ahead to make this our little utopia, but it’ll be worth it.

We basically have a few human neighbors inhabiting a thriving wildlife community. At some point, I’ll share the game cam footage. All I can say is chickens might be a bad idea. And a garden? Well, it’ll be a challenge preventing raids. But we’ll give it a go.

Right now though, the road is calling. Time to get in a few miles before summer then come back to tame this little slice of heaven.

Speaking of the RV….

Spending winters here is not our plan for the future. We’re leaning toward a snowbird life. A migration we’ve gotten so used to that we can’t really think of life any other way.

Next week, we’re off to the mountains. Late summer / early fall, we’ll start the trip south. Visit family, friends, make new connections along the way.

The writing continues. As always. I’ve had a few small gigs, but the focus remains on the thriller series.

The first book is done. Same for book two’s first draft. That one needed more revisions than anticipated. With any luck, this week it goes out to editors then it’s on to book three.

I’ve let the mailing list go stale. Again. It was already stuffed with too many old contacts so I’ll be starting a new one for the thriller series. Keep an eye on this space for more info.

I’m stupid excited about this concept. It’s finally a blend of my lifestyle and my creative process. Not only will I revisit my favorite places in each book, I’ll be able to share personal stories with readers and fans between books.

Thanks so much for reading. I’ll have more words for you all soon!

Russ
